MBX Road Trip | `63 Austin Healey Roadster

A Roadster is an “Open Two-Seater” or “Tow-Seat Tourer.” The term was coined dating back to the 19th century that started with horse drawn carriage, which expanded to push bikes and motorcycles until it was redefined as a two-seater sports car with an open top. The term has been redefined these days that a roadster can also be something of a fun car to drive on weekends or road trips. Matchbox has produced several licensed cars and even the obscure fictional ones. But the Austin-Healey 3000 is one of those iconic British cars that defined it.

MBX Sun Chasers | Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Ford had a long heritage building its identity not only with iconic cars like Mustang or modern day cars like the Fiesta or even Focus, but also introducing their take on trucks big or small. It is in their tradition to bring in something new to the brand and with that during the early 2000s it introduced the Ford Explorer Sport Trac. This midsize pick-up truck was introduced for the North American market and this also was produced into a 1:64 scale diecast for the Matchbox brand that mirrors what the real life truck was, which is the middle sibling of the Ranger and F-150.

MBX Off-Road | `85 Porsche 911 Rally

Porsche as a brand competed in motorsport in the past and has developed their cars through competition with new technologies. They’ve competed in the 24 Hour of Le Mans and other racing events. Most notably they also competed in Rally Sport such as the Paris-Dakar Rally with their Porsche 953 that has become iconic on its own right. Matchbox has produced several licence Porsche models, but for 2019 they went off-road and in honor of that famous winning car in 1984.

MBX Construction | `16 Ram Flatbed

RAM is a division under the Dodge brand that used to be part of it that were separated to focus on its product and expanded to produce quality utility trucks such as the flagship brand the Ram truck that caters to small business and other services. Some of the RAM’s previous model was used as platform for other brands like Mitsubishi. But the 2016 Dodge Ram flatbed is entirely a new variant, which Matchbox produced into its diecast model for 2019 range for its mainline product. It is not to be mistaken from the 2015 Ram 1500 Police that was released in 2017.

Matchbox as a brand is known for licenced cars, trucks, and sometimes aircrafts (Sky Busters), but there’s a handful of castings that were produced based on locomotives and trains. The earliest castings ever produced were the American 4-4-0 Locomotive (Y-13) and Duke of Connaught 4-2-2 (Y-14). Chevy Vans (some variations as GMC Van) are reliable workhorse that Chevrolet produced from the 1960s to mid-1990s that comprise of three generations varying from its use in service depending on the function it has an iconic image that resonate American culture as well as being part of a big family. Matchbox produced several iteration of a Chevy Van, but from 2017 to 2018 there was this Chevy `95 Custom Van that takes inspiration from real life emergency vehicles. But with the Matchbox brand turning things radically with its livery and styling.

The Toyota brand is known for many things in the automotive industry. It’s a global brand that others want to imitate, but when you look at it the standard of excellence has been unbridled. It’s presence in any country can’t be ignored with its history. Matchbox being now an American brand has recognized and produced some memorable castings like the classic Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 Series.

The Nissan brand is not only known for producing the Infiniti, Datsun, and Nismo sports car range. It is also best known for manufacturing utility vehicles that have made a complete brand. Matchbox has been consistent for producing memorable castings that it’s either one off or due to its popularity. For 2017 it introduced one of Nissan’s classic pickup trucks namely the mid-size utility vehicle known as the Nissan Junior.

The Mustang is an iconic brand name for Ford, which was introduced the first generation and manufactured from 1964 to 1973. It was one of Ford’s popular cars known as a “pony car” that revolutionized the compact car. Matchbox has produced several iterations of the Mustang also being known as a muscle car for its sleek design. For 2016 it introduced a radical perspective of the iconic car into a 4x4 vehicle dubbed the “Mudstanger!”

The development continue to produce mass-produced road-cars in some parts of the world like South Australia, which recently opened a public petrol station for electric cars. With that BMW is one of those car manufacturers who pushes the boundaries in innovation with the i3 a 3-door hatchback with an electric powertrain.
