Tomica Event Model | Subaru Sambar Curry Stand
The Subaru Sambar base casting has been used several times by the Tomica brand in the classic range as well as exclusives or special packed sets. In the real world the microvan has been a common sight in Japan having been produced from 1961 to 2012 lasting six generations from Subaru Corporation (formerly Fuji Heavy Industries).
It is currently on its eighth generation which is now a rebadge model based on the Daihatsu Hidjet/Atrai. But the base model for the Tomica version is from the sixth generation, which was manufactured from 1999 to 2012. It was still being used by some small businesses in Japan and it was produced exclusively in this country.
Event Model No. 20 | Mobile Curry Stand
There’s no other base variation for this Mobile Curry Stand other than the original Noodle Truck that was released in the classic mainline for Tomica. It’s design is unique and still retains the base Subaru Sambar cab model that was also used to produce the Bakery truck from 2007.
This of course is a Tomica Event Model that has primary yellow and red colors, but still retains the quality of detail what made this model popular by most collectors who are into the food truck theme.
The branding focuses only related to Tomica here other than it is a TEM exclusive that was sold only in-store promo events held locally in Metro Manila other than that it was first available in Osaka Tomica Expo 2016.

Moving Parts | Lefthand Side Panel Door
Most service vehicle like the food trucks that are panel vans or trucks have an opening gimmick. The Subaru Sambar Mobile curry Stand retains the lefthand side opening door from the Noodle Truck. It has two parts when you lift the panel as the lower part folds to reveal the contents.
The door panel has details like a small lantern attached underneath that is molded to the plastic as well as the extra plastic panel bits that have Japanese text in them. Inside you find the price list of the Curry that they offer and also in Japanese.
Entirely in red plastic with not many details other than at the other side another Japanese text tampographed in black. This retooling shows that an angular roof rather than a flat one. The red color really pops brightly to compliment the front cab’s bright yellow paint job. Of course, like the previous iteration of the Sambar it still has a working suspension like most Tomica cars in the mainline and the generic signature wheels that you see in most models.
Model to Model | Mobile Curry Stand & Bakery
This was been put in comparison the difference in using the base casting with a different tooling on the rear part of the Sambar model. The Bakery truck is obviously using a bread loaf roof while the Curry Stand uses the angular roof that was first introduced in the 2008 Noodle Truck.
The cab design is still the same however the headlights used in the TEM Sambar uses translucent plastic instead of a painted reflective version that was used for the Bakery truck to add different variation in aesthetics.
It’s only unique when the rear part is used for the type of service vehicle other than that the cab is the Subaru Sambar as its base casting that has become a common thread in the Tomica mainline and other variation. But this is the model that is more used in comparison to the Toyota Town Ace truck and that’s another story for comparison. For this model it expands the food truck theme with a different tooling.
Overall the TEM edition of the Noodle Truck doesn’t make it different if it was used as a Mobile Curry Stand as the only difference is variation of the use of color and details. This tooling is used several times in its early life, but by 2016 you don’t find this in the mainline other than being an event exclusive.
Tomica Event Model Subaru Sambar Mobile Curry Stand was released as an exclusive to a Japan event in 2016. This was distributed by Bankee and was available during the Philippine Autocon 2019 for ₱499.75 pesos (**$9.89 USD | $14.74 AUD).
