MIAS 2022 | Event Walkthrough
This is not just an event catered to the local scene, but also to visitors from other countries who want to see what technology is emerging in the Philippines. There have been improvements in how car shows cater to everyone’s needs as part of convenience and ease of having a good experience seeing car manufacturers participate in this country’s biggest car show, which opens in the first quarter of the year. You can’t just visit a trade show about vehicles and just breeze through not to have a good positive experience.
Of course, a collection of images will give you a perspective on the walkthrough at this year's Manila International Motor Show (MIAS), and be captivated by the people and the featured cars and other vehicles in this year’s event.
Even before getting into the main hall or through the convention center, you have to stand in line to get your tickets, which are located at a separate tent just across the event itself. Before even getting your tickets, the tent has a mini exhibit that has a lineup of collectible cars courtesy of the local community of DCPH (Die-Cast Collectors Philippines) that has been part of the event since the start.
You’ll reach the part where you purchase your tickets, and if you’re part of the media, it’s there that you get your media access and other important things prior to going to the main building where the event is being held. This is where you also see exhibitors who have markets for the light and heavy vehicles.
It’s either for small businesses or for your camping needs; they have exhibitors that can present their products in this section as you weave into this tent that is connected to where you purchased your tickets for entry.
By the time you have passed through that, it is off to the races to make it to the main building just across the tent, where all that process you have gone through, you will see something related to those who want to take their adventures to the next level.
The main building has many entrances, and since you are a ticket holder, you need to enter the lobby where they inspect your ticket, and for security, they need to check your bag, as they have policies about carrying things that are not allowed at the show for their security, and for your knowledge to be mindful when you are at their event.
You make it to the lobby and get distracted by the other exhibitors there, seeing some having their own promotion to excite visitors. You get to the main door and see the main exhibit area. Sometimes, it overwhelms you with the new displays and car manufacturers presenting their upcoming models. There’s so much to take in and enjoy the experience that you don’t know where to start.
But of course, for most individuals visiting this event, you start with the familiar car brands that have been your frequent go-to when it comes to looking for their upcoming models. Sometimes, it’s the booth of pretty women beside every car that catches your eye if you’re an amateur photographer who takes pictures of women rather than the actual cars themselves.
It’s that kind of excuse that never gets old coming from someone who used to carry a DSLR at an event and try to capture the prettiest faces at this event. It is part of the car show’s DNA, and it will never change over time to see lots of young men trying to befriend every model in every exhibitor’s booth to call it a career photographer.
This is an ever-growing and ever-evolving event to be part of, and not just having photos with the model and the cars featured, it’s the gimmick that some exhibitors have to attract visitors to have that car show experience. This is never growing away as part of what Filipino culture has become, even dating back to the old days, where the games for you to win something have been a staple to keep everyone interested.
After circling and having seen almost all of this year’s exhibitors, MIAS has an extended annex to take you to the area where you can upgrade your car or see something that might become part of your interest as a gearhead.
But the old heads who are still looking for nostalgia, the last stop would be where the classic and custom cars can be found. It’s where those who participate in community car meets in their city or town bring their pride & joy to people who have seen it before in the local streets.
It’s mostly old cars that have been repainted just for this show; you will find that still running with that clunky, loud engine. This is the type of interest that never goes away, that keeps the community continuing to grow because they remember having one or a friend who used to own that kind of classic car next door. Those types of things you’ll never see anywhere that start up a conversation, and why car shows continue to grow.
The local car show is not just about new cars or innovative designs; it’s also about how they connect with people through these machines that keep interest continuing to be relevant. It might not be for everyone, but stories like this make this type of event never ever go away because having a car or being an enthusiast is part of being in this type of community to visit each year.
