Tomica Event Model | Nissan Fairlady Z Nismo

When you’re into cars chances are you may or may not collect diecast cars, but for those growing up it was one of the basic hobbies collectors would associate with them, since toy cars are a universal interest that connects everyone that invites them to even appreciate the real life cars.

Tomica from Takaratomy is one of those long time brands that continue to be relevant to this day with high quality mainline of diecast cars and other premium editions. They’ve to expand with exclusives and one those is from the Tomica Event Model range with the Nissan Fairlady Z Nismo!

The Tomica brand has been synonymous with licensed cars from classics to the modern era that you say on the road or even the streets of Japan. It is considered the Matchbox of Japan as it retains its trademark white box with painted artwork of the product based on the real vehicle.

Over the years Tomica continues to expand from its classic mainline to licensed series like Dream Tomica, Disney Motors, Star Wars, and Marvel-related properties that produced some of the best and obscure diecast collectibles out there. The event exclusives are also part of the brand’s identity, which produced some unique and exclusive castings for these events.

Event Model No. 3 | Nissan Fairlady Z Nismo

The Nissan Fairlady Z Nismo was released April, 2017, at the Osaka Tomica Expo 2017. It was based on the No. 61 Nissan Fairlady Z Nismo Police Car minus the light bar representing as a new retool for this casting. In comparison the classic Tomica mainline this was an upgraded quality from its original casting.

This car was based on the Nissan 370Z known as Nissan Fairlady Z (Z34) in Japan that is a two-seater sports car from 2009 to present and marks the sixth-generation of Nissan's Z-car line. This version is a NISMO package (Nissan Motorsport International Limited) in pearl white with silver lines on the wheels and red stripe accents on the chassis of the car that shows how well this differs from the cop car.

Like all Tomica branded diecast cars it comes in a box with the Tomica brand colors of red and while, but does not sport a product art, but rather indicating that this is a Tomica Event Model abbreviated to T.E.M. at the front of the box while at the back is details of the product information description in Japanese language text.

When you pull it out of the box the car is bagged in a dust-free plastic just to ensure the quality of this toy car is retained. This is similar to what has Matchbox has done with their Power Grab Edition.

Key Features of the Nissan Fairlady Z Nismo below:

Interior: Black
Moving Parts: Doors

Moving Parts | Opening Doors & More

There’s a rarity in most diecast cars nowadays with its function and gimmick, but like its original casting in Police livery this Nismo version retains the opening doors. But levels up further with quality, with all the little details from the Nissan brand emblem down to the headlight and rear lights as well as the double exhaust that can be found in the real life version of this car.

Noticeable information about this car can also be found on the back window with the text writing that it is a Tomica Event Model as there’s a similar color of this model released as part of the exclusive Nismo range minus the indication that it was an exclusive to particular Tomica event.

With all Tomica cars it also retains that it has a working suspension and the diecast material used for the casting has enough heft to really have that tactile feel on how this car stacks up with the other brands producing the same model. But Takaratomy continues to make this brand relevant in keeping the quality and that made this sa special collectible that you can only find sold in events.

Brand Face-Off | Majorette & Tomica

Comparing it to another brand like Majorette’s Racing Cars range this TEM edition hold up to the Tomica brand name that has been synonymous with its manufacturer. It is like looking at two different brands with distinct but almost similar quality when it comes to the casting and material used for the car body.

Of course, both brands have similar woes when it comes to wheel selections for their cars with Majorette using a fairly common type of wheel and Tomica’s excessive use of the button type for castings that could have enhanced its aesthetics.

But here, both cars have elevated its quality and for the reason why the price point was just right with the Tomica Event Model has a higher premium to live up as these editions are only sold through events like conventions or car shows that does not make it available in other countries.

Overall the TEM No. 3 Nissan Fairlady z Nismo lives up to its past heritage and redeeming itself from the past incarnations using the common button type wheels at the same time elevates the range to be sought after when it comes to the cars that really catches your attention due also to having moving parts like opening doors is now considered a premium nowadays that used to be a common part of some castings.

Tomica Event Model Nissan Fairlady Z Nismo was released as an exclusive to a Japan event in 2017. This was distributed by Bankee and was available during the Philippine Autocon 2019 for ₱499.75 pesos (**$9.89 USD | $14.74 AUD).
