Car Sightings | Toyota bB

When you’re on the road or strolling to where you’re headed sometimes it pays to be observant about anything in your surroundings. There are some surprises and interesting about exploring the places you go even though the aesthetics are not worth to be seen by the human eyes.

But Manila has still those moments that are interesting enough to be intro cars that invite interest. Escolta is one of those places which were the former Central Business District of Metro Manila. It might not be as polished as it used to be though it has moments and then there’s the Toyota bB Mini MPV (Mini Multi-Purpose Vehicle).

The Toyota bB has several names across regional markets. In the US it is marketed under the former-Scion brand by Toyota as an xB. This was privately imported in Australasia, UK, and Netherlands with selected countries in Southeast Asia. But there’s no info that it was sold in the Philippines and this one sighted might be considered as an import.

It is a first generation bB that was based on the Toyota Vitz and the development was led by Toyota chief engineer Tetsuya Tada. While the box-shaped mini MPV was initially targeted towards Japanese men in their twenties, it is also popular with women buyers too. This one seen at the corner of Escolat strest must be a Wolverine fan from Marvel Comics as it shows its livery featuring the famed X-Man.

This is not the first time a boxed car was sighted in Manila although there are similarities to the Toyota Rukus that was sold only in Australia and New Zealand. Nissan also have their version which is the Nissan Cube that was imported privately in the Philippines, but between this and the bB they certainly have their uniqueness.

The boxy design may not be the sexiest aesthetics in car design, but it does catch some attention for its square shape that you don’t find in a standard vehicle. Seeing one might not get you excited, but having an image of Wolverine now that’s something comicbook geeks would want to see!
