The Celica first introduced in Tokyo Motor Show in October 1970 and has gone to become Toyota’s famed cars that lasted seven generations that was manufactured until 2006 powered by various four-cylinder engines, and bodystyles included convertibles and liftback or notchback coupés.
Its name the “Celica” derives from the Latin word coelica meaning "heavenly" or "celestial". The first generation a two-door hardtop coupe that emphasized styling and driving enjoyment based on a platform shared with the Toyota Carina sedan, which is one size above the Toyota Corolla. This car was aimed at the North American market and was Toyota's response to the 1964 Ford Mustang (Pony car) which also was a standard sedan (Ford Falcon) with stylized 2+2 bodywork.
Vintage | Toyota Celica GT Coupé
The Celica GT Coupé introduced in 2019 for the Vintage range is based on the 1600 GT model (TA22, Japan) in yellow emphasizing the “GT” name with black and red stripes that screams 1970s style look and feel as the original first introduced in the Tokyo Motor Show as the Japanese muscle car of this era.
Its base casting is designated with the number 230B and it is new for 2019 that was expanded with a black version only available in selected markets. This version is already uncommon in the Philippines. There are only a select few Toy Kingdom stores that carried this model in limited numbers even though it is considered produced in mass retail that can be found in most stores in Australia.
Key Features of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon below:
Year Release: 2019 | New Casting
Series: Vintage
Scale: 1/56
Window: Clear
Interior: Black
Moving Parts: Doors
Tampo: GT, Black & Red Stripes
Moving Parts | Opening Doors
Like most of the Racing Cars featured in this range it has moving parts that is both doors can open to reveal the cars black interior that certainly works with the red and black colorway that differentiates itself from the Premium Cars version. It is an added premium for this car just like its Premium Edition that the doors open.
Like all Majorette cars it has moving parts and this Celica has opening doors revealing the black interior of the car that matches with the yellow body color of the model. It doesn’t have enough details inside but the hefty diecast metal surely gives you the quality Majorette puts on their models.
Since this is a new casting it will retain this moving part carrying over to the next iteration including the same type of wheels that is introduced in this version. It would be great if Majorette try something different with the next one. But this one is good enough to be the first to take advantage of what the real world version had namely the colors and stripes that includes the aesthetics of the opening doors.
Model to Model | Challenger to Celica
The Celica is the Japanese version of a muscle car and what more comparison is with the Dodge Challenger model from the Racing Cars series. Although the scale of the Challenger is 1/66 which is a little bit smaller to the 1/56 scale of the Celica the quality between tow Majorette products is seen how they put on both license cars.
Both cars are premium in how they are represented and the Celica is shown to be the “old school” pony car due to its design aesthetics from 1970s. The rounded body type and the dated appearance including the colors and trims are evident from this era as in comparison to the muscle car that was introduced in the 2010s.
Overall the Celica GT Coupé is a stand out car from the 1970s that is rarely looked and appreciated for its genesis in carrying the name that lasted to seven generations of car. But there is nothing like the first despite how the model appears to have the front part raised while the rear a little bit lowered. The quality in details like the tiny “GT” to the front and rear lights make it more realistic and a favorite for those who favour the Japanese metal from Toyota is another hit from the Majorette brand.
"Toyota Celica GT Coupé" is part of the Vintage series manufactured by Majorette, which is available exclusively at Toy Kingdom and Toy Kingdom Express in the Philippines that is distributed by Richwell Prime retailed at ₱199.75 Pesos ($ 5.70 AUD | $ 3.93 USD)**
