This was an entirely new casting featuring a flatbed that is used for a variation of utility service. There’s not much utility trucks based on real world version until Matchbox produced a variant of the Dodge Ram truck with a flatbed, which is a common sight in western countries particularly remote state like in South Australia. You can find these being used for small business that caters to a variety of services.
This is version is almost close to the 1500 model that was released in 2017 by Matchbox, and this is entirely a new casting. But what is a fresh take of a similar brand model is that it the utility truck most commonly called a ‘Ute’ short for ‘Utility’ in Australia as more of a vehicle keen for off-road than just used for construction services than a luxury vehicle.

Ram Flatbed
Matchbox revealed the 2016 Ram Flatbed as part of the 2019 mainline range as a brand new casting. Just like its police version of the 2017 released sibling it deviates from the common Dodge Ram pick-up with the unique flatbed for use for construction and other utility-based services.
The cab is painted in silver while the flatbed is made of black plastic with some Easter eggs embedded on the flatbed that you can find. Just like most of the Matchbox produced vehicles they leave some interesting things molded on the plastic just like the VW Transporter Crew Cab that was released several times with its current iteration as a color change for 2019, which was first released back in 2016 as a bicycle service vehicle that has a tire and chain bed.
This is similar to the 2016 Ram Flatbed where you can find three items like the chainsaw, a bag of tools and a chain in the bed. The introduction of this casting also comes with mixed reaction with lack of interior that features opaque black plastic windows in comparison to the 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 Police that has interior details.
Dodge Light Weight
It is already 2019 and Matchbox tends to be stingy with the details of some of its featured vehicles. This 2016 Ram Flatbed in particular could have been better, but lacking headlamp details on the front and the aforementioned interior details as the entire truck itself is made of plastic than diecast material.
There are other Matchbox vehicles that the brand had to cut cost in favour of other cars in the range. It is unfortunate that this one was included in those certain vehicles that lacked a clear window and interior not to mention the heft for being known as a diecast car ending up entirely made of plastic. The lack of details on its exterior made this less impressive compared to its Police sibling that the entire body is made of diecast with more details despite lacking paint on the head and rear lights.
Overall this casting was a missed opportunity for Matchbox to capitalize its use as the 2020 doesn’t have a follow up release. It is unlike the 2015 Ford Cargo that they slowly phased out the interior and changed the clear windows to opaque black that showed how cost cutting was still part of this brand.
“'16 Ram Flatbed” is numbered "MB24" overall die-cast under the "MBX Construction" series for the mainline released for Matchbox in 2019 and it was acquired at Shopwise in Batangas Grand Terminal Station for PhP 149.75 Pesos ($4.28 AUD **). Matchbox is distributed and sold in the Philippines by Richprime Global Inc!
