A Lion's Roar | The Commodore VFII SS-V

Holden’s Commodore VFII SS-V is top of the line sedan that was manufactured by the company as its last product. For those who are not familiar with the Commodore its made in South Australia’s Elizabeth plant that closed some time in October.

The company’s crowning achievement in producing their very own brand car may not end here. Though almost six decades of car manufacturing in South Australia has changed, but for anyone who owned a Holden will keep this in memory forever.

Its appropriate that we should name the Commodore VFII SS-V car of the year in our little corner of the internet sphere this deserves recognition. The heritage and legacy of Holden is not going to end with their signature car, but every Aussie who owned one should share their story how they came to own Australia’s past to bring them in the future even though the factory has rolled down the steel doors in Elizabeth.

An Engine of a Lion

I have the opportunity to be able to experience riding one Commodore VFII SS-V, which is a Redline edition powered by larger, more powerful 6.2-litre 304 kW (408 hp) and 570 N⋅m (420 lb⋅ft) LS3 V8 engine. Heading to last December 30th’s Burger Meet that ride clearly showed why this car was saved for the last hurrah by Holden.

The Series II boast not only an upgraded engine the mid-range SS V features include larger 19-inch wheels and front fog lights. Inside the SS V gains leather seats, an enhanced instrument display, satellite navigation system and a DVD player. The top-end SS V Redline provides extra performance enhancement features over those of the SS V, with improved brake and suspension packages, extra collision sensors, launch control (manual) and a sunroof.

Stealth Beast Set to Pounce

Though the Commodore gets rebadged as the Chevrolet SS in North America or as the Vauxhall VXR8 in United Kingdom underneath its exterior you can see its Made in Australia meaning it’s still the same car that would forever be known originally.

The smell of a new car is still there even though the owner claimed acquiring this car sometime in November. The exterior is exquisite with leather seats and the sunroof that you can’t miss looking at. As an observer the details and trimmings of this car certainly is something extra when Holden went out with a bang.

The Aussie Heritage Car

There’s something to appreciate about one of Australia’s culture that would forever part of its heritage namely when you talk about cars. Holden may have gone down to keep moving, but something already built can’t be count out like the Commodore VFII SS-V that will be around in the streets of Australia no matter what.

It really deserves to be THE Car for 2017 as homage and tribute to what is Australia at the same time redeeming its image from the past negativity of whatever it was known as the bad part of car culture. Overall the Commodore VFII SS-V is something worth owning if you appreciate everything Australian this is the car for you.
