The 84’ Audi Sport Quattro stood out the pack because it has a history when it you talk about rally motorsport. When you talk about the 1980s there are so many things cool about this era from popular culture to everything that also includes technology and automotive. For the petrol head there are so many interests that capture motorsport that it is challenging to follow each one. But of course you can pick one and it would be something to do with rally racing, which gives you the curiosity about off-road and rough terrain.
Many automotive manufacturers try to compete in this sport not only to win, but also to learn about developing their cars. Success only makes it sweeter when the car wins, but what makes it interesting the technology they use to improve the car under those circumstances challenging the rough roads and challenging track.
Heritage of the Quattro
The Audi brand is a prestige car manufacturer, which is a member of the Volkswagen Group in Germany. The word quattro is derived from the Italian word for "four". The name has also been used by Audi to refer to the quattro four-wheel-drive system, or any four-wheel-drive version of an Audi model. The original Quattro model is also commonly referred to as the Ur-Quattro - the "Ur-" (German for "primordial", "original", or "first of its kind") is an augmentative prefix, in this case meaning "original". The idea of such a car came from the Audi engineer Jörg Bensinger.
The Audi Quattro was the first rally car to take advantage of the then-recently changed rules which allowed the use of four-wheel drive in competition racing. It won consecutive competitions for the next two years. To commemorate the success of the original vehicle, all subsequent Audi production automobiles with their trademark quattro four-wheel-drive system were badged quattro with a lower case "q" and in a distinct typeface which has remained nearly unchanged since its inception.
The Audi Quattro shared many parts and core body components with the Coupé version of the Audi 80 (B2) model range. The Quattro was internally designated Typ 85, a production code it shared with the quattro versions of the Audi 80 coupé. Its characteristic flared wheelarches were styled by Martin Smith. The Audi Quattro also had independent front and rear suspension.
Stories behind the tiny car
When you collect diecast cars have it occurred to you or has caught your curiosity the story behind the car that you acquire? Or you just collect it just because it was “cool” looking? There are varying interests when you find the curiosity to start this hobby. For others who are into rally motorsport or automotive in general when you acquire one car sometimes you try to research the story behind the car, which is both captivatingly interesting and at the same time educational for the reason why the 84’ Audi Sport Quattro has a rich sport heritage that made its mark on motorsport history.
Interesting enough when you mention the Audi brand the most popular car in mind is the Quattro, because of its synonymous with rally racing that the car manufacturer mass produced a road car from 1980 to 1991, which put the brand in everyone’s collective consciousness when you talk about prestigious cars. It is a replication of the Group B Rally homologation of the Audi Quattro from 1984.
Baja Blazing Sports Car
Among the contemporaries under the “Baja Blazers” released in 2019 under the Hot Wheels mainline it is the 84’ Audi Sport Quattro has a history. The boxy two door rally car takes inspiration from its real life brethren with its first color in white decked with tampograph sponsors from Red stripe, '4' racing number, Castrol logo, '2019 Hot Wheels Terrain Challenge' on sides, Detailed headlights & Audi logo on front.
Although not exactly having the same dressing as the counterpart you get the idea what it appears in the real world version. The front headlights are well-detailed, but since it has tampograph on both side Hot Wheels did not put any details in the rear with unpainted taillights or even a registration plate for real world accuracy.
For its first initial release from the back of the 2019 card gives you the description:
Born: 1984 Ingolstadt, Germany
Designer: AUDI AG
Dig in with all four wheels for ultimate traction! This turbocharged world champion rally car rules on every road surface and in any kind of weather. Only 214 of these cars were built, guaranteeing Audi Sport quattro's place in race car history. Baja Blazers: Built for endurance and performance, no matter what the terrain.
Overall the 84’ Audi Sport Quattro is one of the latest castings for 2019 that captures the nostalgic aesthetics of the rally car although not accurate due to lack of details from the rear it still captures the boxy type designs from that era that made this one of the well-known cars in the past that put the Audi brand in the forefront.
They say every ‘toy car’ has a story and the 84’Audi Sport Quattro did not disappoint for those who are into rally motorsport. For those who just collect it should give you a story behind this car. Hot Wheels won’t produce them if not for its racing heritage that invites curiosity not just acquiring them for you collection and it did find its interest not just for the car but also the story behind it.
