MBX Road Trip | Chevy 95 Custom Van

Chevy Vans (some variations as GMC Van) are reliable workhorse that Chevrolet produced from the 1960s to mid-1990s that comprise of three generations varying from its use in service depending on the function it has an iconic image that resonate American culture as well as being part of a big family.

Matchbox produced several iteration of a Chevy Van, but from 2017 to 2018 there was this Chevy `95 Custom Van that takes inspiration from real life emergency vehicles. But with the Matchbox brand turning things radically with its livery and styling.

The Chevy `95 Custom Van was a brand new casting being teased early in 2017 as it was released on the same year based from the real life emergency vehicle. But Matchbox taking it further using that custom body type and adding something unique that stood out from the mainline release.

This casting was introduced in 2017 and was also produced the following year. It had a variation that can be seen from the rear part of the van. It is either having a motorcycle or a spare tire with gas can that is unique from the real life emergency vehicle. But there is no livery if it was an ambulance type although the casting clearly shows it was based from an ambulance from that era.

Key Features of the Chevy `95 Custom Van below:

Year Release: 2018 | New Casting (Introduced in 2017)
Color: Metalflake Brown
Wheel Color: White
Tampo: "Custom '95 Chevy Van" on sides
Interior: None

MBX Road Tripper

For the 2018 mainline release the Chevy `95 Custom Van comes in metalflake brown and the underside chassis black as oppose the 2017 release with chrome silver. This time there’s a tampo that shows the name of the van and like the previous year release it also has variant either motorcycle or spare tire with gas can.

This time it is part of the “MBX Road Trip” and when it came in packaging Matchbox hasn’t changed the artwork from the previous year. It is impressive enough to merit a second release since being introduced the year before as a new casting.

Fine Details but No Interiors

It is one of the best castings released in 2017 and yet Matchbox did not include an interior as the windows are opaque black and one of the few releases that try to keep the production cost by not including an interior, which is understandable that also loses this van’s appeal compare to previous version of the Chevy Van.

With those exterior details that has no interiors at the same time it was scaled down if it is compared to previous vans that is based from Chevy/GMC. It was a bit let down to see something new with cost cuts as this would probably be the last release for 2018 unless Matchbox figures out a way to improve the quality for this van. But there’s no release for 2019 and evident of the lack of interior details.

Overall this casting with exterior details was impressive but failed to be more impressive due to the lack of interior that had this release short lived. This was one of the best releases for 2017. But surely Matchbox will find a way to bring this back although for now this gets an immediate retirement unless it gets revived.

“Chevy'95 Custom Van” is numbered 26/36 die-cast cars released for Matchbox in 2018 and it was acquired at Toy Kingdom in SM Aura Premier for PhP 120.00 Pesos ($3.42 AUD **) for the October 2019 Sale.
