MBX Explorers | Toyota Land Cruiser

The Toyota brand is known for many things in the automotive industry. It’s a global brand that others want to imitate, but when you look at it the standard of excellence has been unbridled.

It’s presence in any country can’t be ignored with its history. Matchbox being now an American brand has recognized and produced some memorable castings like the classic Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 Series.

When you talk about the Toyota Land Cruiser the fondest memory to mind is the classic FJ40 series, which was produced from 1960 until 1984. It’s considered one of the early produced SUV (Sports Utility Vehicles) for off-road travels and adventures.

The traditional body on frame SUVs, most 40 series Land Cruisers were built as 2-door models with slightly larger dimensions than the similar Jeep CJ. It was also produced in Brazil from 1968 to 2001 as “Toyota Bandeirante” and “Toyota Macho” in Venezuela, which has no difference from the Japanese production with minor changes to suit the regional market.

Matchbox has introduced the FJ40 series as part of the “New Model” casting in 2009 and has produced several versions of this up to the present included in special series or the mainline. The early releases has had better colors and details compared to the later releases as noticed with the quality.

This version was released for the 2015 mainline based from the 1968 model in orange metal body over Burgundy red plastic chassis that have the graphics of “MBX Challenge” that has diminish its recent look due to color combinations that makes it more unrealistic with the way its presented in this version.

Overall the casting for the 2015 still stands out as one of Toyota’s classic cars known throughout the world. It’s just the color combination makes it unrealistic as this is considered less of an off-road vehicle that shouts ‘kiddie appeal’ that could have been done better compared to the early releases that touches the Land Cruiser appeal.

“1968 Toyota Land Cruiser” is numbered 113 0f 125 die-cast cars released for Matchbox in 2015 and it was acquired at The Reject Shop in Westfield Marion for $2.00 AUD or PhP 80.00 in Philippine Peso.

Matchbox is distributed and sold in Australia by Mattel Pty., LTD. based in Richmond, Victoria.
